We Put the Fun in Funding

A bill would essentially expand the state’s 10-year-old Pari-Mutuel Commission to regulate all for-profit gambling in Wyoming. The Casper Star-Tribune reports such groups would still have to report gambling proceeds to the state. The Joint Committee on Travel, Recreation and Cultural Resources voted 11-2 on Jan. 30 to advance the bill for possible consideration by the full Legislature in the month ahead. Source: Casper (Wyo.) It’s been a long time coming, but thanks to the 2013 legislative session and the governor’s signing of House Bill 77, Wyoming finally has a state lottery.

Gambling regulation bill headed to Wyoming Legislature. Saying it could stem the spread of unregulated gambling while building public confidence in gambling. However, the bill as written is. The bill – sponsored Jan. 11 by the Joint Agriculture, State and Public Lands & Water Resources Committee – would remove the stipulation that the Wyoming State Fair not allow any gambling.

Where the Money Goes

Keeping Wyoming Dollars in Wyoming

For years, Wyoming’s Powerball and Mega Millions lottery players spent their lottery dollars in neighboring states that have lotteries. The Wyoming Lottery helps ensure that those Wyoming dollars will stay in Wyoming and support Wyoming’s communities.

Like all for-profit businesses, the goal of the Wyoming Lottery Corporation is to make money. But, unlike typical businesses, Wyoming Lottery net revenues will be distributed by the state to Wyoming’s cities, towns and counties and deposited into the state’s Permanent Land Fund’s Common School Account. In other words, except for operating expenses and winner payouts, all of the money the Wyoming Lottery takes in goes back to the state of Wyoming. We’re looking forward to making a significant financial contribution to Wyoming in the years ahead, and to participating as a socially responsible supporter of local businesses, organizations, institutions and events throughout the state. Our support of education and local events are examples of our community involvement.

The Wyoming House of Representatives has narrowly voted against a bill that had aimed to legalise online and mobile sports wagering in the US state.

Introduced last month, House Bill 0225 failed after being voted down 32-27 in the House, which means that the bill will now be withdrawn from the legislative process.

The vote also means that Wyoming will unlikely legalise sports betting this year, with the state’s current legislative session due to conclude on March 6.

Sponsored by Representative Tom Walters and Senator Ogden Driskill, HB 0225 had focused on legalising online and mobile sports wagering, with the aim of opening a regulated market no later than January 1, 2021.
